On Wednesday, March 11, the Mound City R-2 gymnasium was transformed into a walk through history. From the French Revolution to the Civil Rights movement, from the Civil War to the Modern Olympics, the 85 students of middle school social studies teacher Ryan Osburn (pictured above as the “Father of our country,” George Washington) stepped into character for the large crowd roaming throughout the gym. After six weeks of research, each character came alive with stories and facts about themselves.

The Mound City R-2 Courtwarming coronation was held on Friday, Feb. 6, before the varsity basketball games with the Fairfax, MO, Bulldogs. The king and queen were chosen by the student body. Pictured above are King Randy Smith, left, and Queen Lena Ashford, right, both seniors at Mound City R-2.

The first place winner in the Christmas Around the Square Lighting Contest in Oregon, MO, was the home of Brad and Deana Derr at 503 W. Nodaway. The residence was decorated by their son, Cutler Derr. The first place prize was $100 in local merchandise gift certificates. The homes were judged on Wednesday, December 17, by the Christmas Around the Square Committee.
